I'm so sorry for what you & your colleagues are going through. The Scientists dedicated to health care of the citizens in the US! It's infuriating! And this is while living in the scarlet-red state of South Carolina. (I actually heard a bank teller announce with pride that she was unvaccinated...as she spent her day in the faces of dozens of members of this Trump-worshipping community.)
How did we stay Covid-free? Vaccinations, boosters, masking, common sense, and regard for each other's well-being.
(FULL DISCLOSURE: My brother and father died of non-Covid-related causes during this time while under hospice care, and my mother's time under hospice care is drawing to a close, but none of them were/are due to Covid.)

Walmart is apparently fully now invested in killing more of their "customers". Though receiving exactly the same two prescriptions for opioids for about a year, within 2 or 3 days of the now well known call between Trump and the CEO of Walmart (due to the threat to post "tariff costs" on Walmart price stickers), suddenly the people Walmart killed with oxy ($3.1B settlement worth), aren't enough, and they are now attempting to kill more of us, but now those with (in my case) a 25-year history with the same pain care specialist, and 55 years of constant pain. This was my third cut in a year, and while being solely responsible (other then hospice) for Mom's care (of which they are very aware.) FWIW, I've been 100% fully and permanently disabled for the past 25 years.
I'd estimate that there are between 10 and 20 million of us in America with this higher level of need for daily pain medication, and if they continue this deliberate strategy to shift blame from the Sacklers, Purdue Pharma and the FDA, to the people they have very successfully labeled as "ignorant hillbillies" the death will be great, even if hidden in all the other Trump horrors. The truth is that those of us with legitimate pain needs have a much-researched <1% addiction rate, and we will die by the millions when opioids are no longer available to people such as myself...
I'm hoping to find another path. At this new level (which I declined, in hopes of another option), I won't survive, and I will become just another of the 10% of American suicides caused by failures of pain management:

It’s bad enough to face the constant false allegations, threats and abuse that was an everyday occurrence before he was appointed. Now it’s like his supporters on social media feel validated and have ramped the abuse up to 12. The platforms refuse to do anything about it. Even after this episode of domestic terrorism, and yes, that is exactly what it is.
To turn the knife a bit more, his actions last week of firing the whole Workplace Violence Prevention team was the ultimate betrayal and eff you. That’s what bothers me the most about he and his rabid followers, they do not care if their beliefs are false and they don’t care about the abject harm they have and will continue to inflict. Not just on the scientists but on public health, on this country. I don’t know if this can ever be undone. Will we recover? How many lives will be lost in the process? How many missed opportunities to protect public health will go by? How many of us will there be left to carry on?
It’s so hard to believe that this is happening. I appreciate you so much for standing up and speaking the truth. It’s people like you that remind us why we went into this field and why we must not let this nightmare take over.
