Kennedy Jr., the CDC is being systematically dismantled precisely as H5N1 spreads through commercial poultry and edges closer to human adaptation. This is not incompetence. It is calculated negligence, the willful disabling of surveillance, response, and prevention systems that could mean the difference between containment and catastrophe. If this virus acquires the ability to spread person to person, we may not detect it until it is unstoppable. At that point millions of lives will be lost not because science failed, but because those in power chose to strip away the defenses that could have saved them.

With Trump controlling the SCROTUS the courts cannot be counted on to fix this problem. And with congress in the hands of the GOP it's unclear that congress will be able to do much in the short term. Obviously americans should still put pressure on congress and those involved should still take their case up the courts, but don't have any illusions of the chances of any meaningful success coming from either.
Once these MAGA folks begin to realize that all of these "spending cuts and savings" in actuality are resulting in skyrocketing health insurance premiums, local community hospital closings, literal physician shortages, loss of local preventative services, nursing home closures, and disability and Medicaid/Medicare cuts, the Midterm elections stand to be a bloodbath for the GOP. Further, when otherwise healthy children begin to succumb to epidemics of preventable childhood diseases because of the idiotic opinions of a handful of anti-vaxxer fools who have prevented their access to life saving vaccines, we will hear outrage and calls for impeachment on a scale never heard previously. I believe that this currentl administration has sorely underestimated the tolerance of the full force of the medical community, the parents of this country, seniors, and the American people.
